  3. I thought acupuncture is based on the concept that points on the body are in some way connected to energy flow for various organs. If that's the case, why are the needles being placed in the scalp?

Do the points map to specific brain regions or is the idea to get as close to the brain as possible?

I think I'll stick with the tongue acupuncture :p

  4. I thought the same thing. Shouldn't they be poking the foot or something?

Don't they have more comfortable places to stick needles in than the scalp or the tongue? I don't know, maybe a thigh.

  8. scalp acupuncture is VERY good for improving brain function. there are different regions on the scalp that correspond with different brain functions. ie. motor region, sensory region etc. the scalp is more painful but very useful.. it's also used a lot in stroke patients.

  9. The video actually shows how fast and simple the methods is! Scalp acupuncture is being used for stroke, MS, paralysis, Lou Gering disease to name just a few...with remarkable success, something that western medicine can not claim...I forgot, with NO BAD SIDE EFFECTS! So, please, get your facts straight before calling something "stupid and idiotic", that only shows immaturity and close mindedness.

  10. Cite a paper, Anon.

The fact is that acupuncture has not been demonstrated to be any more effective than sham acupuncture. In other words, it's a placebo.

  11. Acupuncture flat out works! It has made such a difference my friends autism it just blows my mind. I used to have reservations about acupuncture but not now. Think about it, china used this exclusively as their medicine for thousands of years. They just so happen to be the most populous country in the world. I don't think that happened by chance. Most of the people who don't except it are either trying very hard to convince themselves that it doesn't work or too lazy to try.

  12. That's a joke, right? China's life expectancy is lower than that of the west.

  14. 3,000 plus years of empirical evidence should be the proof you're looking for. Do you know any other medicine or science that has lasted that long ??

Those that want to cite a paper or study simply don't understand that Chinese medicine is 'Eastern' in it's very nature. It is not easily subject to western double blind studies, because each patient is treated individually... If researchers want to to really test the efficacy of acupuncture, they will need to tweak the very model by which they test it. Simply trying to lump X number of patients together into a test / study groups just doesn't work. That's not the nature of the medicine.

  15. Jospeh...I've seen your type dozens of times in my office. They come to me when western medicine has failed them. they're completely desperate and begging for any help they can get. Unfortunately, they wait so long, their symptoms have progressed to the worst stages. If only they were more open minded and came earlier, when acupuncture could have helped even more. Empirical evidence is still evidence !!

  16. @Anon: What you call empirical evidence is actually anecdotal evidence, if that.

Your general argument -- that accupuncture can't be tested by science -- is a variation of an argument known as "other ways of knowing."
